Hello!

I used to be reasonably good at German, although I stopped studying it about five years ago. I have recently decided I'd quite like to learn it again and decided the most interesting way would probably be by reading websites. However, I'm having a hard time finding any.

Does anyone know any websites aimed at German children? I'm thinking very very basic words, so probably for children around five years old? That's basically my sort of ability level, haha! My German googling skills aren't great, so I've been having trouble finding anything.

I need major, major help. I have a paper due for German. It's asking us to write a page about our relationship to an art. So, I did. I'm aware there is probably about a hundred errors in this thing, but I just don't have the eyes for them. I had to look up so much to even say what I wanted to say here, and the last paragraph was really, really difficult to figure out. Could you folks help me? Thanks in advance!

Und dann sah ich Lord of the Rings.

Der Titel war “The Music of Eden.” Es war ein hundert sechzig Seiten lange! Als ich siebzhen Jahre alt war, schrieb ich “The Roads of Rome.” Es war ein hundert fünfzig Seiten lange. Ich schrieb auch Kurzgeschichten. Ich trat in einen Wettbewerb: “The Scholastic and Art Writing Awards.”

Title: Whisper Your Name Into the Sky
Fandoms: Daredevil and Fantastic Four, vaguely movieverse with a touch of comics canon (namely, that the F4 are clients of Nelson & Murdock) thrown in.
Characters: Matt Murdock and Ben Grimm (Background Ben/Alicia.)
Rating: PG-13 for language
Word count: 3,600
Summary: The Thing and Daredevil walk into a bar...
Author's notes: Title and cut-tag text are from "As I Lay Me Down" by Sophie B. Hawkins. This fic takes place in roughly the same continuity as my Daredevil fic "Never Rained Like It Has Tonight."

But really. When I'm having trouble with my Ben Grimm fic wanting to be slashy, you give me this?

"If you had a larger thing in pants, your life would have been better."

a) He's big enough.
b) I'm not sure my life would have been, no, and
c) I'm choosing to interpret this as advice for Ben to keep his pants on, kthx.

Dear Brain,

Spelling matters. "There was not enough beer in the world for this" and "There was not enough bear in the world for this," mean two very, very different things. Especially when you're writing about Ben Grimm and Matt Murdock in a somewhat compromising situation.

"Not enough bear in the world," while perhaps appropriate for Ben (except for the whole hair thing), is not what you meant. At all.

No love,

Flourless Chocolate Cake
(Recipe source The Gourmet Cookbook)

Ingredients:

8 ounces good quality bittersweet (not semi-sweet) chocolate, roughly chopped
2 sticks unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1 1/2 cups sugar
6 eggs
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Generously grease a 9 or 10 inch springform pan and line the bottom with wax or parchment paper (cut into a circle to fit bottom of pan). Make sure to grease the liner as well.

In a double broiler or in a large bowl over a pan of simmering water, add chocolate and butter. Stir constantly until melted. Remove bowl from heat and whisk in sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Last, sift cocoa powder into mixture and whisk until just combined.

Pour batter into prepared springform pan and bake for 35-40 minutes. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out with moist crumbs and top should have a thin crust. Cool cake in pan on a rack for 10 minutes and then remove sides of pan. Invert cake on a plate and then back onto the rack to fully cool before serving.

Yield: 10-12 servings

Instead of Arthur being taken to Avalon and Merlin being immortal and waiting for Arthur to be reincarnated, Merlin trades in his immortality to save Arthur's life, so now Arthur is immortal and waits for Merlin to return from Avalon. Centuries go by, and he mostly lives in the past, unable to let go, until one day he passes Merlin on the street...

Unfortunately I can't manage all that postage again :( Instead I thought I'd do drawbles instead! I want to be inclusive even if we don't currently share a fandom so there's two options this time:

A) Give me a pairing and/or prompt in any of my current or former fandoms (Bandom, Stargate Atlantis, Supernatural, Merlin, Harry Potter) and I'll draw you something!

B) Tell me you'd like option B and I'll pick one or more of your LJ interests and draw you something with them!

Christmas-themed prompts or other seasonal holiday-themed prompts are more than welcome :D

I was only half-serious when I suggested this last night, but then a friend actually took me up on the challenge, and it was really awesome. So! I'm making this Officially A Meme, because if the Holiday Wishlist thing could start here and explode like an explodey thing, who knows what will happen? :D

OKAY SO. Here's the facts:

1. A lot of us like singing.
2. Singing makes a lot of people happy. Also, being sung to (or for) usually makes people happy.
3. Music connects people.

Therefore, if more people sang and were sung to, wouldn't we all be happier and more connected? :D (Logic is totally my strong point.)

They call singers a GLEE club for a reason, right? Share the glee if you like the show. If you hate the show and just like singing. I don't care how you do it. Turn up the stereo and sing into your phone, making a voice post. Or, if you're like me and already had music/video editing shareware on your computer, open up a file in Audacity and record a new vocal track on top of it.

We do it in the shower and in the car. Some of us do it onstage, or in karaoke bars, or in church. And yet...most of us don't share this part of ourselves on LJ, our musical glee.

So do it, if you love singing! Put your voice out there! Sing along to the songs you love, and let's see if we can't get Livejournal being its very own Sing-Along Blog! And if you're self-conscious or nervous, don't be. Unless you're a professional singer, why would you expect to sound like one? We're all human, and the point of this isn't to wow our audiences. It's to share, to connect, and--most importantly--to have fun.

(...Come on. You know you want to. Yeah, you--the person sitting there thinking, "I want to but no way would I ever get up the nerve." It's only singing. ♥ )

I hate it when companies utterly fail at localisation. I registered the gift credit card I got today. The site had a lovely option where you could mark your address as international so it wouldn't ask for a state and it gave you blank fields to enter information so you wouldn't be bound by the American address format. How thoughtful! If only they'd applied the same logic to the phone number field. It was impossible to enter a phone number that didn't follow the American xxx-xxx-xxxx format. FAIL VISA, SO MUCH FAIL. >:(

In the end I entered my host parents' phone number because of course it was a mandatory field to fill out too.

Yesterday I spent the evening hanging out with friends and got horribly drunk. Apart from one rambly drunk post and a few flailing comments about the new Panic! interview I think I managed not to embarrass myself too badly this time. Instead I just watched that interview approximately a billion times on repeat. I'm so happy for new canon! Now if they'd just hurry up and release some new music, that'd be awesome.

Speaking of music, I've made a playlist of christmas songs and I've been listening to it a lot and I thought I'd share two of my favorite songs. They're both pretty classic christmas songs but I love these versions because they're so lively and upbeat.
